Cemetery

Pine Grove Cemetary in Logan Township, MN

Pine Grove Cemetery was established on April 5, 1903. W.J. Weber, C.H Fowlds, John Fowlds, George Fowlds, John Roberts, Edward Roberts, William Watts, Alex Watson, and Bert Reeve were all present to form themselves into a Cemetery Association. That same year, land was donated to the cemetery by Maggie and John Roberts and another 14 feet was donated by them in 1904.

In 1925, the land across from the cemetery was donated by Edward Roberts, who was the Administrator of the Estate for Maggie Roberts. On this land, now sits one of the last remaining one-room schoolhouses in Aitkin County, which many refer to as The Chapel. The Chapel was originally donated by Mable Fowlds and some upgrades were done shortly thereafter by both Diane and Larry Ladd.

Additional land was donated by William and Helen Carlson in 1948 which is known as the 1st addition to the cemetery. In 1968, land was donated for a service road by Ruby Sanford, Janette and Geo Vikes, and Audrey and John Engels. Richard and Mary Carlson donated land for a 2nd addition in 1973 and then again 2009 for the 3rd and 4th additions to the cemetery. 100 feet of land was donated by Daren and Floyd Watson in 2017.

While under the Cemetery Association, the land was platted in 1948 to show the original land and 1st addition. The 2nd addition was platted in 1982, and 3rd was platted in 2002.

The cemetery was run by a Cemetery Board from the establishment of the cemetery until 2010. Due to the rising cost of upkeep and maintenance, the Cemetery Board could no longer maintain the property and Logan Township stepped in to take control over the cemetery.

Pine Grove Cemetery is nestled in the beautiful woods of North Central Minnesota and can be located at 46990 Great River Rd., Palisade, MN 56469. The Chapel can be found across the street from the cemetery at 46989 Great River Rd., Palisade, MN 56469.
